About

I started reading software manuals when I was eight. I wanted to know how digital things worked, and that instinct to dig in and figure it out has shaped my whole career. Most of what I know came from building things and breaking them, with a few classes along the way.
Where I started
I cut my IT teeth in nonprofits. At Community Renewal Team in Hartford, I ran the network during a period of growth, and we took the agency from 200 staff computers to 600, mostly through donated and repurposed hardware. At the Connecticut Association for Community Action, I managed the completion and implementation of a statewide case management system, built the support system around it, and then ran the support. I also led an open-source data exchange and reporting project, so member agencies could pull together cross-agency and cross-system case data in a click instead of hours of merging by hand.
Nutmeg Consulting
Since 2005 I've been at Nutmeg Consulting, where I'm a co-founder, CTO and board member. I lead technology strategy, security architecture and product development. We grew together from a couple of partners to a team of about twenty, serving nonprofits, small businesses and public-sector organizations in several states.
- Security. Zero trust and SASE for organizations that can't afford to cut corners, with partners including Cloudflare and Sophos.
- Operations. Running managed services lean and by exception, so a small team can look after a lot of systems without anyone becoming the bottleneck.
- AI. Bringing AI into the practice, for our own team and for clients: internal tools built on Cloudflare, and local, self-hosted models when the data has to stay put.
- Homeless services. Early on I helped the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness choose and roll out the statewide HMIS (Homeless Management Information System). Several teams at Nutmeg carry that work today, including Engage, a mobile outreach app; I support them on the technology side.
How I work
I'm a connector of people and ideas. I can talk with engineers and executives alike, and I'm often the bridge between the two. I'm a team builder who also works in the teams we build. I push people to be ambitious and not to let failure stop us from trying new things. Failure is a more reliable path to success than luck, and living through it makes the unknown easier to handle when it shows up.
Outside work
I've served on the board of the American Red Cross Middlesex County chapter. For more than a decade I volunteered as IT lead for the Connecticut AIDS Resource Coalition, now Advancing Connecticut Together: planning and building their systems, stretching their budget with nonprofit pricing, and supporting their staff day to day. They're still a Nutmeg client today.
Seeking board service in the Northeast
I'm looking to serve on the board of a nonprofit in the Northeast working on basic human needs: community action, affordable housing, homelessness, and the services that help people and families get back on their feet. I've spent my career alongside organizations like these, from community action agencies to statewide homeless services systems, and I know how much the right technology and good data can do to put more of every dollar toward the people being served.
